There was some great stuff on show, Ricky Feather’s track frame was stunning, as was Donhou’s road bike built for Tim of the Daily cycle and let’s not talk about the Dura Ace equipped Brother track bike. Feather and Donhou were also awarded prizes for best Best track frame and best Utility bike respectively, as voted for by the exhibitors.
All in all a top day with some amazing things to see and also plenty of ideas if you were thinking about a build, which is pretty much me the whole time but sans cash.
Bristol Bespoked are already calling for exhibitors for 2012 so start pestering your local builder now, so we can see next year’s show being twice as big!
More pics of the day here at my flickrspot.

Our approach to building bicycles for the Rapha Continental Riders is a reflection of our environment both in terms of riding and in terms of the people, builders and brands local to the Pacific Northwest; Portland in particular. Inspired by the style of riding we’ve come to affectionately, if not with tongue-in-cheek, refer to as Gentlemen’s Racing or Epic’ing. It calls for steel and timeless classics to be lovingly, and with great deliberation, paired with lightweight nano-technology – on these bikes leather and carbon play well, ride heroically and look stunning together.
So good. More here.

Rapha Japan has it’s office in Nobeyama, on the mild eastern slope of Yatsugatake mountain: A farmer’s village of only 3500 population, the summers here create the best batch of wine grapes. Harsh conditions of 1400m elevation, with huge temperature differences from day to night makes highland vegetables unusually sweet. Cabbage, lettuce, and nappa cabbage from this area are considered to be the best and traded at high price for those who live in the metropolis. We eat for free, of course, as neighboring farmers leave them at the door every cool summer morning.
Read more on the trip and see more great photographs right here.

Taken from the book entitled ‘Cycling and cycle sports’ by DK publications.
Quite an interesting book for the novice and also a lot of amusing pictures of what appear to be 80s cyclists too. Look out for the triathlete… Wow is all I am saying!

So I went to the UK Cycle Show at Earls Court last week with Hardy and I took my camera for a wrestle and to potentially snap some cycles.

Condor Cycle’s remake of the original Paris Galibier bicycle.

The design for this unique bike came about in the 1940s, designed by Harry Rensch. Later, during the early 80′s, Michael Kemp and Monty Young set up Paris Lightweight Cycles, and with the help of a West London frame builder, Tom Board, built the Paris Galibier.
The reasoning behind the tube arrangement was to eliminate flex, but also allowing a degree of elasticity that helped to smooth bumpy roads.
So, Condor have relaunched it, such is the interest in retro bikes. It certainly stands out from the crowd, and if you want one Condor will build one to order. Frame and fork prices from £1,200.
