Olmo Scans.

June 1, 2010

I recently got hold of an Olmo. A 50th anniversary, Columbus tubed, full Chorus Olmo to be exact.

After years of riding bikes that are too small for me I have at last found something that I believe to be perfect for me, but it needs painting. No, really, it does. Despite what is written here I am going to do it as the frame is 1. In a relatively bad way and 2. It’s disgusting, I don’t do 2-tone black and grey with rust spots!

So, I am not sure what colour to go for at this point but here is some great inspiration I found at bulgier.

Next is the tussle between powder, acrylic and enamel. Powder is very cheap, easy but can look a bit ‘flabby’ but then where near to me will do stove enamel? Let the tussle begin.

The best colour for a Colnago, or is that second best?

Zullo now in the UK.

April 1, 2010

Tiziano Zullo was born in 1952 in the North of Italy. He started racing at the age of fourteen and in the early seventies came into contact with the world of frame building through some of the Italian builders. He began building frames, under his own name and for larger brands, and in 1978 he started to export the Zullo brand. By 1985 he was the frame supplier of the Dutch TVM team, a relationship that lasted until 1992. Zullo frames were ridden on the Milan San Remo, the Northern Classics and the Tours De France, Giro díItalia, La Vuelta and World Championships. He experimented with Aluminium and still has a custom Carbon frame but the range is still predominantly steel.

Lee Cooper.

January 26, 2010

Yesterday afternoon I took my good friend Jon to see Lee Cooper of Coventry, for those that do not know Lee is a top frame builder and is also the man responsible for building most if not all of the frames for London’s 14 Bike Co.

The reason we travelled to see Lee had less to do with frame building though and more about frame restoration. Simply put we needed a set of replacement decals for Jon’s recently acquired 1974 Tom Bromwich track bike and Lee was the man to see.

So we hung around for a while, I managed to grab a handful of photographs and Jon gripped his decals. Mission accomplished.

Thanks Lee for taking the time out to talk with us and show us around your place.

Mo TT Hotness.

January 20, 2010

Oh my god this Colnago is ridonkulous!

I am now totally warming to the idea of a TT bike for my collection ( after a chat with the wife of course ) and moreover I am warming to the idea of bull bars for my pursuit bike. Riser bars in my opinion ( comfortable as they are ) are beginning to look a tad out of place.

Last week I said I would post pics of either the Bottechia Equipe or the Ciocc San Crisoball but no… I chose this beauty instead. A 1989 Paletti Cronos complete with Modolo braking equipment and an Assos chainset I have never seen before. I am loving the profile of those tubes too, proper early aero!

Found at Ray Dobbins amazing Gallery space.
