So I found my lockring, attached it and went riding, now here it is, in all it’s glory, straight back after it’s maiden voyage as the ‘silver shadow’.
We went on a lovely 30 or so miler yesterday evening with Hardysan on his brand new and totally luscious Parlee. It was a beautiful ride in the evening sun around West heath, Blackwell, Wythall, Lickey hills and then some… I tell you, it was probably the most hills in succession I have ridden round these parts. Not bad training for a european excursion, perhaps do the route 3 times on an empty stomach, with a rucksack on and flat tyres, I’m sure that’d be training enough.
It was all gravy until I reached about 5 miles from home and 30 minutes before the World Cup final began, when I heard “crunch, click, crunch, click, clunk, click”. Strange, so I looked down and to my horror I noticed that the noise that had been coming from the rear of the bicycle for the past few weeks was indeed what I thought it might have been… A knackered freewheel. Damn thing had pretty much fallen off and it was now refusing to engage and turn the wheel.

I had known something was up since I got these wheels, A clunking every now and then when spinning at high revs, but until something broke I had no idea what it was exactly, thankfully it chose to fail in relative walking distance from my home.
Next up it’s a relentless hunt for a 6 speed block and preferably Regina!

So, remember last week I mentioned that I planned to fit some tubular tyres onto my newly purchased wheels? Well, I have only gone and done it! I can also report that: Yes, it is a right bast**d fitting them but I can also report that it is a lot less of a pain in the ass than I first thought.
Happy as Larry I am now, happy as Larry.

If you couldn’t tell from these drawings then you should know that Gilberto Colombo played a significant part in some of the most advancing bike frame designs in history.
Seen.

The first saddle with a plastic shell in the history of cycling. The legendary Unicanitor is back and improved with the satin steel rail and the ultimate calibrated techno polymer base. The dimensions are identical to the ones of the most famous model.
I’ll take a Red one please.
Spotted.

Colnago killing me again!
I know summer has gone but you could create your own rays simply by mounting this whip. Around my neighbourhood we like to call this “Blingerz” and yes, always with a Z.
I will post the source next week, right after I post more photographs. Maybe it will be the luscious Bottecchia Equipe or maybe even the magnificent Ciocc San Cristobal! We will see.

This Berlin based fellow has a collection of bikes that is sicker than most, seriously he has some killer bicycles and I would potentially do ( almost ) anything for the chromed out C.B.T Italia he has… Ouch!
Go check out his steez as he individually details each of his bikes with a whole bunch of photographs, which is nice.
Many thanks to Kris for the linky.

I was looking for one of these in my size for quite some time and to my amazement just recently I managed to snag one and here it is, just completed, my 1974 Ilkeston Built, 531, Raleigh professional track bike. It wasn’t in the best of conditions to begin with but after a bit of tender love and care and a trip the the chromers for the forks it is back on the road and in full effect!
I need to grip an original Headbadge for it and a set of Campy cranks but apart from that I reckon it’s done. Boom, Here is to a great summer!

Mike Giant produced a nice graphic, showing off his ‘64 Black Cinelli Super-Corsa bike and offered it to the Italian bike maker. They liked it so much, that they will soon be releasing it as a limited edition poster.
Words form Highsnob.

This is almost old news but I recently stumbled upon pictures from the opening show / party that I must share.
For those who don’t know about the collabo…
Cinelli has always combined design, competition, technology and art.
Art is in Cinelli’s DNA, and creative talents like Keith Haring, Mario Schifano, Alessandro Mendini and Maurizio Cattelan have made their contribution with catalogue covers, installations, performances, one-offs that are constantly traveling in prestigious exhibitions. RVCA is a rapidly growing young Californian company of surf and skate wear whose success is the result of collaboration with artists, most of them from the area of street art.
Here too the artists not only collaborate on the creation of products, but also function as an observatory, with antennae to catch new cultural trends.
The encounter between these two companies with a similar approach has led to the works of 13 highly acclaimed artists* who have reinterpreted the Cinelli Supercorsa Pista, an icon of worldwide cycling. Some have made sculptures, while others have kept the models in working order, always in the fixed-gear track version.
The choice of Cinelli was a precise acknowledgment not only in terms of culture, but also regarding the company’s unique history of competitive success.
Cinelli’s Lasers have won an impressive quantity of world and Olympic competitions, and today the development of the track and fixed-gear program is the main objective of the company.
Besides the 13 one-offs, a bike produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces has been designed by Barry McGee, the most famous street artist in San Francisco, whose works are featured in many museums.
Barry himself, like all the invited artists, is an excellent rider… when he was a kid he rode a Supercorsa Cinelli which he now displays with pride in his studio.
The bikes were all ordered on the first evening, at the opening of the event called “Pressure” in the RVCA gallery at Ashbury and Haight in San Francisco.

One of my favourite artists to come out of the 80s, Keith Haring on a collab with Cinelli.
