After a good few months of selling off some stuff either on the Bay or to homies I gained enough coin to purchase something a little bit special.

I looked around for a long time trying to find the right one in the right size and at the right price and after what seemed like an eternity I eventually found what I was looking for.

It arrived today, Boom! I expected it to arrive either tomorrow or Monday morning so you can imagine my excitement when Mr TNT came through the doors of my shop holding a large package under his arm with my name written on the side of it… so much excitement infact that I managed to slash my finger half off whilst trying to unwrap the beast.

I won’t say what it is just yet but here is a clue or three:
It is steel, Belgian and has a top tube that slopes the ‘right’ way.

Keep em peeled for pics… hopefully this weekend!

Brooks x EHBPC London.

July 9, 2009

The Swift EHBPC London is a limited edition of 250 saddles, featuring blue leather top and the impressed logo of the first European Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships held in London in 2009.

This saddle is part of the COLOURED LTD EDITION saddles made to support a series of events Brooks sponsor.

I have never been the biggest fan of Brooks saddles, however I do love what they do and I also love the fact that are based in my home town so big ups for Birmingham heritage!

Gutted I missed this one as I hear that it was great and I can also see from various other pics flying around the net that the turn out was good too so a very well done goes out to Fin.

Also Keep em peeled for Bikezilla Round 2.

I should have had more faith.

My cycle home last night was nice, dry and with a hint of sun… can you imagine how wounded I was that I had made the call to postpone the WWFGSC ride?

Anyway, the ride into the countryside will definitely commence tomorrow evening, Thursday.

7.00 Meet in Pigeon Park.
7.30 Meet more folks at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath.

I mass txd a lot of you last night to reiterate but if you did not recieve a tx could you please send me your digits ( excluding Teddy, Chris Headley and Brett ) so I can update quicker and easier than posting on here. That way you don’t have to move… I will send all the info you need on rides right to your blower! Easy.

W-W-F-G-S-C Postponed.

July 7, 2009

I have just been out on my lunch break and it is raining cats and dogs and the weather app on my iphone tells me it will remain like this until tomorrow so a Re-schedule to Thursday must take place.

Everyone good with Thurdsay?

I hate postponing and cancelling things but the Lord on high has left me no choice.

All interested in joining please send me your name and number via the ‘get intouch’ tab at the top right of your screen so I can update easier and quicker… the joys of technology!

Sorry about this my people but I guessed no one would really enjoy a wet and soggy ride through the country.

Right so it is raining here in Birmingham but I am hoping it will have calmed down by 7oclock tonight.

Are you guys still up for this? I guess we will find out tonight when I arrive at Pigeon Park…!

Dan mentioned a 7.30pm meet at the Hare and Hounds for the folks who live over those sides. I am happy with this so it is settled.

7.10pm – Town meet – Pigeon Park.
7.30pm – Kings Heath meet – outside the Hare and Hounds.

Read the general and quite loose route here.

For those that manage to read this today while at work or chilling at home could you please leave your name in the comments box so I know how many will be making it.

Also if you have time could you ‘Get Intouch’ at the top right of the screen with your name and phone number… This way I can keep all comers updated should any issues arise between the time you leave you computer and 7oclock.

Thanks and hopefully see you later.

Weekend Workers Fixed Gear Social.

Right then, sorry for the lateness of the deets folks but here goes:

We will meet on Tuesday evening at 7.10pm at Pigeon Park in the city centre and then proceed to cycle out of town onwards through Balsall Heath, Moseley, then Kings Heath to hopefully meet some more people and then out passed the Maypole into the countryside.

We aim to do a 2-3 hour ride and either do a shorter distance and stop at a country pub ( the Peacock perhaps? ) or do a long loop of somesort… but we will leave that decision up to all of us on the day I think.

So them there are the vitals… I hope you can make it and let us hope for good weather!

Postcards from Birmingham.

June 11, 2009

P1020309

Fin dropped by the store yesterday to pass me a handful of these. A bunch of really nice postcards to promote the cycling scene in Birmingham. As you may be able to see on the front there, they have a picture of Birmingham’s most handsome bike and quite rightfully so! On the rear the cards contain web addresses for the three most relevant sites for Brum cyclists and fixed heads, namely Birmingham Fixed Gear, Spinwell and the LFGSS Birmingham forum.

Thanks Fin, from all of us. You have done a fine job.

BMX back in Birmingham.

May 21, 2009

Remember last week I mentioned plans to rebuild Perry Barr/Great Barr BMX track?

file-2

Well a visit yesterday to Ade at Sprocket revealed the news that the rebuild has begun.

n616491902_1922368_3698171
n616491902_1928622_8171800
n616491902_1936899_619895

Those pictures were taken last week so I am guessing they have gotten quite a bit further by now but anyway well done to all the guys involved, you have done a grand job!… I can’t wait to see it again, that track was sitting there unloved and rotting for far too long.

More info at BMX Talk forum.
Also check Birmingham BMX.

Want to go peep it?… here is the Address.

If any of you Brummie fixed wheelers are at a loose end with nothing to do tonight pop by the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath and peep a glimpse of the baddest Dj in the world right now.

Nostalgia.

May 12, 2009

LS your a genius… If it wasn’t for your comment I would have never found out about this:

I totally used to live minutes away from here, technically it is Perry Barr BMX track too not Great Barr but anyway.

Damn I remember countless nights spent here with my pals Mike, Andy and sometimes even the great “Rat Russell” ( Props to you James wherever you are ).

It is a crying shame about this track though like many. The people in charge of the track from a BMX club that I was unaware of had some money for a refurb so ( without a great deal of planning it seemed ) they went ahead and filled in some doubles and flattened some berms with the idea to make again bigger and better, I myself even hepled out with the ‘refurb’. The problem was though that they didn’t have enough money to finish it ( or so we were told ) so today it still stands unfinished and completely unrideable.

I think it was possibly a council scheme to get kids off the track due to a lack of supervision, you know the usual Health and Safety nonesense.

It seems now that there are plans afoot to return the track to it’s former glory in one way or another, I just found this out via the Birmingham BMX site:
2009 is an important year for Birmingham and BMX because this spring, Birmingham City Council, supported by British Cycling and Sport England, are bidding to host the 2012 UCI BMX World Championships at the NIA. Part of the legacy of the bid is to leave an outdoor international BMX race facility in Perry Park, which will be the home of the Birmingham BMX Club.

Result, I will be checking that site regular as when that building starts I want to be there, wheel barrow and all!

The perfect riding jeans…

April 8, 2009

… are these Kr3w ‘K Slims’ which I spotted at Ideal the other day.
p1010992

The reason they are perfect is because of the 10% lycra ( elastine / spandex whatever you want to call it ) contained in them.

I have a similar pair of stretch jeans in black that I wear everyday I ride my bike. I wear them everyday because they are literally the only jeans I can ride in due to their stretchy nature. Anything else just either rips when I attempt to mount my steed or ( if I manage to get on my bike without them ripping ) they would simply prohibit me from getting a decent spin on. So no, normal denim will just not do!

So if you are in the market for a new set of slacks to ride your bike in “Throw off the shackles of standard denim” and get yourself to Ideal.

Critical Thrash part deux.

March 26, 2009

critical-thrash-number2

Right – this time let’s meet round the side of the library, by the bike racks at, erm, let’s say 4pm, but that’s subject to change. Feel free to bring a bit of booze if you wish, but remember street drinking is banned in Brum, and it’s better to leave the drinking until after the ride…

This one will be a points race. You do not have to visit all of the checkpoints but there will be a time limit. Some checkpoints will be worth more points than others. Penalty for being late, extra points for coming back first, second and third.

The race is also a race for points in teh Brum alleycat league. The points you earn in the race will also count as your points on the league table. Hence, you don’t have to come in the top three to get on the table.

Since there is no prize there is no entry fee, however, entrants may pay an optional pound towards a mystery prize. Obviously, only those who have paid will be eligible to win the prize…

Regarding the picture: Lee what is wrong with the dudes head? Is it the dayglo nature of the flyer that is giving the poor chap a headache?
