So, I have not long gotten my grubby mitts on the TT frame I have been seeking for a good few months, and while hunting around this massive web of goodness, for inspiration on a somewhat ‘period correct’ build, I came across this super and smashing forum thread of pure appreciation for the golden era of British Time Trialling.
As many black and white and colour photograph scans that one could ever wish for. Seriously, page after page of sloping top tubes, drilled out brake levers, skin suits, 24″ front wheels, the lot.
A big thanks to all the contributors of said thread, your photographs are nothing short of amazing!

I have just learned that Alan Shorter, founder of Shorter-Rochford passed away on the evening of the 9th November at the tender age of 92.
I do not very much about this man, I am not going to front. What I do know however is that he was a very forward thinking man in respect to the production of his frames and the aero advantages that could be gained there, with configurations, joining methods and of course, the lightening process by way of Drillium. He was also instrumental in coaching ‘The King’ Alf Engers to the TT record of 25 miles in under 50 minutes back in 1978.
His name and legacy will live on. Alan Shorter. Legend.

At exactly 9:00 am the great guru of speed sport launched into ride to define a career, astride a purpose built TT machine this aging fighter with the rock star persona strained every sinew as he pushed forward from the start line. Ahead lay 25 miles of testing… Schooled by two decades of competition Alf would have quickly fallen into his race stride, not a gentle roll, or even a head down hard effort, the very nature of a 25 mile TT demands nothing short of maximum performance at every level, mental, physical, mechanical…never has the old saying ‘when the flag drops the bullshit stops’ been so appropriate.
Words by Gordon Hayes.
A seriously good read, about Alf Engers and his record breaking 49:24 twenty five mile TT.
Go check it out here.
