Unlike other 6.0 shoes this, the Drifter appears much more slimline and simple looking.
The 6.0 series is aimed at and intended for BMX so I am guessing that Nike have realised that the skinny jeans wearing ‘extreme’ types don’t get on too well with the ‘typical’ offerings like perhaps the Mogan and have opted for something a little more forgiving on the foot and on the eye.
Well done Nike, these are nice.

January 27, 2009It read something like ‘Ladies Bike, 10 gears, Good condition, £25′ ‘Buy it now’ on Ebay so without a great deal of thought I pressed the button and bought it.
So off I went to Coventry and paid the man for the beauty that is the Raleigh Riva.
You see the lady, she wanted a bicycle so I, being the nice fellow that I am got one for her and she loved it. Up until the point last week where the ‘Beauty that is the Raleigh Riva’ turned into the heap of junk that is the Raleigh Riva. “This thing is a god damn piece of dog sh*t!” she shouted to me while we were cycling up Bradford street, well I say cycle, I was cycling, she was struggling.
Every single time there was a mere possibility of the thing going over a bump it would momentarily change gear, thus resulting in a ‘Crack!’ followed by unrepeatable curses and more importantly a real tough time for the rider attempting to climb the hill. No momentum here folks.
“Just tune em” I hear you holler. I did all that, several times. I am a bad boy mechanic if I do say so myself and I knew straight away that the poor old Sachs rear mech was not long for this world, Nor might I add were the barely operating plastic thumb shifters mounted to the stem. It had all gone horribly wrong, this thing that had started out so lovely had turned into a “piece of dog sh*t” as Amy put it.
On the only day off we get together due to work commitments we set about ripping the tired gears off because ladies and gentlemen Amy was relinquishing the option to change gear ratios whilst in transit.
She wanted it ‘singlespeed’.
The oil caked front and rear mechanisms came off a treat, just a couple of nuts undone and it is almost over. Next we put on a new chainring to replace the large and heavily worn out biopace ring, selected an appropriate gear on the rear cassette, shortened the chain, removed the non working rear brake, Pannier rack and mud guards and it is over. Apart from cosmetics of course! I had to do it, I had these bits lying around so…. BMX flats and Gold Finger lever attached. Done.
No more gear hopping, easier, lighter, more stable. Winner.
It isn’t that nice a bike to look at, some may say it is still a heap of junk but all of that is beside the point. It goes, corners, stops, is reliable, needs little maintenance, you can leave it outside a shop unchained and it will still be there when you return and most importantly, Amy, she likes it.
Now that’s what I’m talking about.

I Love it. Although I am a big fan of smashing wing mirrors when cut up by a driver, sometimes if a real bad road maneuver has taken place I will resort to pulling open passenger side doors. Not the best thing to do I will say but it seems to do the trick of relieving me of my anger.

Vittoria goodness
January 26, 2009My Vittoria Randonneur landed saturday.
First impressions are very good, however I am coming from using a beat up old slick for a couple of months!
The Vittoria has a good hold in the wet and is not too sticky in the dry thus letting it slice real nice when jamming the rear wheel.
The main reasons for me purchasing this tyre though has to be it’s price ( approx £11 ) and what you get for that price… puncture protection and super long lasting. Neither of which I have had before.
This is a great winter tyre and I would recommend it highly.

Yes. Brooks Swallow gripped off Kris at Ideal today for a good, good price.
It has seen better days this saddle but I love it, nothing that a bit of saddle soap won’t cure.
Plus who knows, this could be seriously old, like an antique.
Judging by the replacement of three of the rivets at the back someone wanted to keep this one alive.
Not sure what it is going on yet as it would look seriosluy sh*t on my matt black Dolan but we will see.
Perhaps I will just hold onto it until something comes along.

Butty’s 700c PK Ripper

Got sent this pic today from my long time home boy and the very man from who I purchased my first PK Ripper.
This is Antony Butt’s bad boy fixed wheel.
I can still remember swapping him a handful of hard saved cash when I was 17, for a shiny polished Aluminium Ripper complete with landing gear forks… sweet!
I almost wet myself… It was finally mine.
Then like an idiot I went and sold it about a year later through fear of snapping it on my local trails – Ashworth in Great Barr.
Antony or ‘Butty’ has been riding bikes ever since I have known him, he has raced countless times in BMX including the Worlds, yes the Worlds!
He has competed against most, if not all of of my old BMX heroes and always, always on an S.E.
I can only imagine what trinkets this guy has in his garage.
When I first found out about the 700c Ripper I emailed him to see if he had any info on it, price, release date etc.
Not only did he have info, he already had the bike, in his possession and had been shredding it for for a while. Damn!
I am a big fan of this and I still want one so Antony if your reading this, nudge nudge, wink wink!

Here is Eddy Merckx again, during his triumphant attempt at breaking the hour record distance by riding 49.431 km in an hour.
Although adorned with Windsor stickers at the time, the actual bike used during the record is now well-known to be a highly custom Colnago Pista equipped with various parts of magnesium and titanium that were provided by Pino Morroni.

D.I.Y Doublers Pt.2

This time using black suede and larger rivets for a more ‘pro’ feel.
FYI. The suede was gained from a skirt purchased for £4.00 from a charity shop by the Missus.

Perusing the interweb lastnight brought back my memory of these.
The Mechanix Original
The original bad boy glove that you had to have when I was a young boy racing downhill.
I however owned a pair of Fox gloves that I saved up for and had managed to grip from my nearest motocross store which was like 15 miles away in Brownhills. This of course was a long time before I had even been on the internet never mind Internet shopping, so I had to make do with what I could get… the Fox’s.
These Mechanix gloves originally released in the 90s for motocross mechanics to wear whilst tinkering with engines and brake fluid look as good now as they did over 10 years ago on the hands of my favourite riders.
Available in a rainbow of colours for approx £20.
Get them here amongst others.
As they have been around for a while and I love a bit of history I am gripping a set for the summer for sure.
At last, my gripping aparatus will be satisfied that finally they will get to feel the goodness that is a set of Mechanix originals!
FBM Sword

I don’t know a great deal about this frame other than what I have seen flying around the interglobe. However I do know it is made by none other than the Federal Bike Company, purveyors of some damn fine BMX products.
Not entirely sure if this will come to the UK as the Sword frameset has been out since 2007 and I never seen one or heard of anyone owning one but I hope they do because they look good… that paint looks cool too.
