Cyclocross.

February 9, 2010 by Gavin Campbell

Apologies for the lack of posts of late my friends. Technical difficulties at home prevented me from posting anything but anyway. I am now back in the game, so here goes.

Last Sunday I popped along to the National Cyclocross Championships in Sutton Park and here are some images of what I saw.

See more cyclocross goodness here at my flickr spot.

The second one has to be my fave. Like a sea of black shorts, different today, of course where riders look like super heroes in skin-suits of top to toe colour and logo emblazonment. I have nothing against sponsor’s logos or colour may I add, I myself have several jerseys in what I might call a ‘dayglo’ colour-way. My shorts however must always be black, always.

Spotted here.

And this photo gallery from the same photograper entitled “The Summer of 79″ is also must see.

Lessons in Winter Riding.

February 1, 2010 by Gavin Campbell

It was a crisp morning yesterday when we headed out for our regular sunday morning geared ride.

We had done no more than ten miles when that right hander reared it’s ugly head. You see that crispness equated to an awful lot of surface frost on the roads and up until that point we had done a good job of avoiding it but me at the time being ride leader found that no matter how good you think you are at dodging the ice you are never ‘that’ good.

My body took 99% of the brunt with a smashed face, cut knees, cut shoulder, sprained wrists, one day old overshoes ruined, ripped shorts and the thing that wounded me most of all is that in the spill my favourite pieces of cycling attire were destroyed. My Stowaway and my Swift jersey. Gutted.

So I learned another lesson yesterday: Yes winter training is important but not as important as my face so next time it looks icy out there I am staying in bed.

Handlebar chic.

February 1, 2010 by Gavin Campbell

On a bike with swept back handlebars and amber wall tyres one of these would look great. Plus you can flip it and wear it around your person with the additional strap. Perfect!

Don’t sweat the technique.

January 29, 2010 by Gavin Campbell

Several people have asked me how to paint the flutes on a crank, so I finally decided to put together a page with my “technique,” which can also be used for flutes on seatposts, as well as pantographing, and other engravings and cut-outs.

So if you have ever wondered how it is done or you need some advice / assistance on doing it yourself read more here.

Cycle Sports.

Taken from the book entitled ‘Cycling and cycle sports’ by DK publications.

Quite an interesting book for the novice and also a lot of amusing pictures of what appear to be 80s cyclists too. Look out for the triathlete… Wow is all I am saying!

Posted a link to these pics last week from the brilliant La Gazzetta della Bici but the link alone did them no justice so here I include a few more pics for you.

Periodic Goodness.

January 28, 2010 by Gavin Campbell

Races are ordered from top-to-bottom in rough order of importance, with vertical series representing geographic location of events. Stage races tend toward the left side of the table, one-days toward the right, and colors correspond with UCI ranking of individual events.

Lee Cooper.

January 26, 2010 by Gavin Campbell

Yesterday afternoon I took my good friend Jon to see Lee Cooper of Coventry, for those that do not know Lee is a top frame builder and is also the man responsible for building most if not all of the frames for London’s 14 Bike Co.

The reason we travelled to see Lee had less to do with frame building though and more about frame restoration. Simply put we needed a set of replacement decals for Jon’s recently acquired 1974 Tom Bromwich track bike and Lee was the man to see.

So we hung around for a while, I managed to grab a handful of photographs and Jon gripped his decals. Mission accomplished.

Thanks Lee for taking the time out to talk with us and show us around your place.
